Legal Services

The Pro Bono Project, in partnership with the legal community, provides access to legal services and education for Mesa County residents.  Our volunteer attorneys assist with a full range of civil legal problems including domestic violence, family law, and landlord tenant and consumer law issues.  If you need help obtaining a protection order, please call 970-424-5748 to set up an appointment.  There are no income eligibility requirements for protection order assistance for victims of domestic violence and other crime victims.

Our priorities include:

  • Divorce (Dissolution of Marriage)

  • Custody (Allocation of Parental Responsibility)

  • Temporary or Permanent Protection Orders

  • Consult with an attorney on Modification of parenting plans

  • Landlord Tenant Assistance

  • ALL CASES MUST BE IN MESA COUNTY AND

  • APPLICANT MUST BE A MESA COUNTY RESIDENT

If you qualify for services, we will attempt​ to place your case with a pro bono attorney, or schedule you for attendance at one of our clinics.  Our clinics are designed to assist you with proper forms and advice on how to proceed with your legal issue on your own.

NOTE:  Due to our limited resources, the Pro Bono Project CANNOT

Give legal advice or answer specific questions regarding your legal issue.  You must complete an application and your legal issue must lie within our priorities before we can determine how best to assist you with your legal issue.  All legal advice is provided through volunteer attorneys.

The Pro Bono Project does not provide:​

  • General Legal Advice

  • Any Criminal Defense Advice or Assistance

  • Assistance with fee-generating cases, such as lawsuits, personal injury, workers’ compensation, contingency fee cases, or Social Security Disability cases
